Blogging Guidelines

Blogging Guidelines

Internet safety is of the utmost importance and therefore the following guidelines have been created:

  • Kindergarten – Year 4 will have private URL blogs and be unsearchable through search engines such as Google.
  • Blogs in Year 5 & 6 will be searchable through search engines such as Google and hence additional guidance will be given to students to help them take this step responsibly. Teachers will still moderate all comments and posts before they are published on the blogs.
  • Students’ first names, work samples, photos may be included on the blogs.
  • Students’ surnames, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, specific plans, birth dates and other personal information will not be included on the blog for reasons of safety.
  • School identifiers such as logo, name, suburb, address and contact details will not be included on the blog.
  • Future events will not be publicised on the blog, all information to be retrospective.
  • Student work will be edited in line with usual teaching practice. This will mean that work will be checked but students will be encouraged to write in their own voices. Students will be assisted in editing in age-appropriate ways.
  • All student posts and incoming comments from external sources will be moderated by teachers before they are published.
  • All commenters posting to the blog must be polite, respectful and courteous.
  • Parents who leave comments are asked to use their first name only so as not to identify their child. For example, please identify yourself in comments as Jane – Johnny’s mum not Jane Brown – Johnny’s mum.
